The stag is one of my favourite animals, one of the most majestic creatures to create on canvas. The alert expression on a red stags face is captivating. The stag is considered to be the king of the forest, the protector of all other creatures.
This original shows the stag plundering through long grass, disturbing red grouse from their hiding place, sending them scattering into the sky. The stag has often been considered the symbol of power, nobility and freedom. For this reason the stag has been a popular motif in heraldry and may be found on many Scottish Clan Crests.
My original has been created on canvas, bonded to a conservation board and painted with mixed media using layers of colour, fast brush movement and dramatic mood lighting to create the life that breaths in this painting.
The highest quality framing has then been undertaken 'in house' using acid free materials, and finally the perfect frame.
